Mazus reptans

As a low growing creeping ground cover, Mazus reptens has a lot to offer. It is fast growing, has a dense habit and attractive flowers as well. so lets look a little more closely at this interesting plant.

With lance shaped leaves and the ability to spread by underground stems Mazus reptens is one of the more useful ground-covers for growing between pavers, or filling a gap. widely used in rock gardens as well as being suitable for underplanting trees grown in containers.

It will never reach more than 4 – 6 inches hight and grows well in full sun as well as part shade.

Flowers are generally a pale purple or white, depending on the cultivar.

  • Full sun to part shade – In warmer areas Mazus reptens is best in afternoon shade
  • Keep moist during dry summer periods
  • Best grown in an area where it is contained, in a pathway, rock garden, containers, as it can spread.


All are easy by division of established clumps in early spring as new growth commences.
